Closed Campus Policy

Menlo-Atherton Highschool is a Closed Campus

Students are not allowed to leave the campus without a "permit to leave" issued by the Attendance Office (650) 322-5311 x 50101.

If a student is caught off campus, coming back onto campus, or attempting to leave campus without permission they will be brought to the office and receive a behavioral consequence.

OBTAINING A “PERMIT TO LEAVE”
If your student needs to leave school early please call, (650) 322-5311 x 50101, at least 2 hours prior to avoid any delays in your child’s dismissal time. Calling 2 hours in advance allows time for a pass to be written and delivered to your student's classroom.

We understand that appointments sometimes are made suddenly, but ask that you do your best to plan ahead and communicate with the attendance office in a timely manner.

If you are ILL and want to go home:  Proceed immediately to the Health Aide office. The health aide will call home to obtain parent/guardian permission to leave campus and issue you a "permit to leave" pass.

Students:
DO NOT CALL PARENT/GUARDIAN from CELL PHONE or from the CLASSROOM. REPORT DIRECTLY to the HEALTH OFFICE WITH A PASS from your class and the Health Aide will contact home.

Please do not leave the school campus without proper permission.

If a student leaves campus without obtaining the "permit to leave" pass from either the Attendance Office or Health Office their absence will be coded as a cut.

The Sequoia Union High School District does provide an automatic caller to notify parents/guardians of their student’s attendance for each day. Even though a parent calls the Attendance Office to clear a child’s absences or if students are excused for a school activity, an automated phone call will usually still be placed to the home. Parents/guardians may track their student’s attendance via the parent portal on Infinite Campus.

CLOSED CAMPUS AND PERMISSION TO LEAVE:

All schools in the Sequoia Union High School District have “closed campuses”. This means students may not leave the campus until their school day has been completed unless they have checked out through the office.
▪       In emergencies, parents call the attendance office and make arrangements for the student to leave early.
▪       Students who need to leave campus during the school day must obtain a permit to leave through the attendance office in advance (before leaving the school campus).
▪       Designated areas of campus are closed to students during assemblies/rallies, breaks, and lunch including, but not limited to the construction site, parking lots, fire trails around the school, athletic fields, tennis courts, and areas surrounding the campus including our neighboring community and side streets.
▪       Students who leave class without permission or who do not report to a designated area as directed by school officials are considered truant and will be referred to the AVP office. “School hours” are the time when a student has assigned classes, including brunch and lunch.
